Lovelorn\, self-destructive and desperately\naimless\, San Bao nevertheles s has moments of euphoria amid his own despair\,\nas he roams the sleek\, shifting city with other soulful\, cash-poor dreamers\nand misfits. Such h eavenly losers form the vital spirit of Beijing in\nacclaimed director Zha ng Yuan’s gorgeously gritty\, angst-ridden portrait\nof youthful disaffe ction and perseverance in the teeth of heartbreak\,\nruthless inequality a nd unfeeling ambition.

Director\nZhang Yua n was born in Nanjing\, China in\n1963. He studied cinem atography at the Beijing Film Academy and began\ndirecting feature films i n 1980.
