Take your fiction writing\nto the next level. This workshop will explore how to activate characters\nand scenes to make your storytelling more compelling. In addition to daily\nw orkshop sessions\, students will be armed with character and scene\nactiva ting tools through acting\, filmmaking and screenwriting exercises.\nThese techniques will be utilized and explored in writing exercises. A\nsubmiss ion of work beforehand is required two weeks before the class\nbegins.

Heather Parkinson Dermott received her MFA in film\nproduction from Un iversity of Southern California.  She is the author of\nAcross Open G round\, a coming of age novel set in the Wood River\nValley at the da wn of WWI. She has directed and produced a number of award\nwinning short films. She currently lives in Boise\, Idaho with her husband\nand two chil dren. She is editing her second novel and developing a\nhealthcare app.

The talk will feature artwork\nby the Dynaton artists of the late 1940s and early 1950s\, Frederick\nWight ’s landscape paintings from the 1970s and 1980s\, and the work of\nSouth ern California’s Light and Space artists from the 1960s and\n1970s.
