Authenticity is\nthe s ingle most important attribute a photographer can learn and possess.\nNot only is it a process of working from within\, it can also eventually\nlead to the creation of the masterpiece. This workshop explores the\nperceptua l and technical processes involved in authenticity. Typically\,\nphotograp hers practice their craft without giving enough thought to vision\,\naware ness and the basic fundamental technical aspects that cause the\neffects t hey create. In contrast\, the process of authenticity deals\ndirectly with the fundamentals of creating an image by enabling\nphotographers to work directly from their unique nature\, rather than\nphotographing derivativel y.

George starts by reviewing the\nfundamentals of “photographic seeing” and the skills necessary to\naccomplish it. Next\, the class wil l examine the basic technical problems\nthat hound photographers when they are making images both in photographing\na subject and in post-processing . Lastly\, the class will study and practice\na way to free one’s self f rom the concepts and styles of other\nphotographers.

The simple ans wer to a creative life in photography\nis emptying yourself of all unneces sary impediments and seeing the world as\nif only the wind had blown that way before. This four day intensive starts\nyou toward accomplishing this goal by freeing you from entrenched rules of\ncomposition\, foundational t echnical problems and unproductive\nbehaviors.

He\nstudied with Ansel Adams and Minor Wh ite in the 1970s and studied\nPerception with Dr. Richard Zakia.
