This unique 3-day workshop and residency offers participants a chance to learn and create artwork with Master printmaker Dan Welden.
In the morning, Dan will guide participants through an exploration of monoprinting, in combination with a variety of drawing techniques and the use of solarplates. Learn how to handle pigments with a variety of art media and mark-making tools.
After lunch, participants will have the opportunity to do their own work and work side-by-side with Dan. Use the time to explore the creative possibilities of the process. The Hailey classroom has a printing press, and will be equipped with inks, paper, and other art making materials and cleaning supplies.
Solarplates will be available to purchase from Dan at the workshop. Upon registration, participants will be provided with a list of personal supplies that they might want to bring with them.
Age & ability: 18+, printmaking experience required.

About the Instructor
Dan Welden is a leader in alternative printmaking and innovator of the "Solarplate.” Coauthor of Printmaking in the Sun and director of Hampton Editions, ltd., he has 55 years of collaborations with artists, including Louisa Chase, Elaine de Kooning, Eric Fischl, Kiki Smith, Dan Flavin, David Salle and Kurt Vonnegut, Jr, and was dubbed “Master Printmaker” by Willem de Kooning in the 1980s. He worked, taught, and expanded his practice while teaching at Stony Brook, Central Connecticut State and Long Island universities. Through the process of polymer printmaking, his studio continued with etching and relief printing. His recognition through residencies, workshops, lectures, and 105 solo exhibitions has elevated his role as both painter and printmaker, with visits to all continents and 55 countries. Dan’s prolific work ethic brought him awards of 'Professor Emeritus' from Escuela de Bellas Artes in Cuzco, Peru; a recent Pollock/Krasner Award Grant and an A/E Lifetime Achievement Award. He is represented by the Alex Ferrone Gallery in Cutchogue, New York and the Mitchell-Giddings Fine Art Gallery in Brattleboro, Vermont.
