Join us for our annual celebration of summer and art from 5–7:30pm. We will host the opening of our summer exhibition Mending Across Borders & Boundaries, in addition we’ll have live music, drinks, food trucks, and arts and crafts for everyone in the community to enjoy.
Artist Maria De Los Angeles, whose commissioned garment sculpture includes textiles designed by Wood River Valley community members, will kick off the exhibition celebration with remarks about her project at 5:15pm
We're thrilled to welcome artist, singer, and electronic music composer Elisa Harkins (b. 1978, Cherokee, Muscogee) for a live gallery performance at 5:30pm followed by a 7pm outdoor performance. A DJ set will kick off the evening and finish out the night!
Maria de Los Angeles is a multidisciplinary artist based in New York and Jersey City whose work across drawing, painting, printmaking, wearable sculpture, and murals explores themes of migration, identity, displacement, and otherness. Currently, Assistant Director for Graduate Studies at the Yale School of Art, her artwork has been featured in solo exhibitions at Schneider Museum of Art and the Museum of Sonoma County, public murals in California, and is held in collections including the Museum of Sonoma County and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art
Elisa Harkins’s work explores the body, Indigenous music, and language revitalization. Her performances and exhibitions have been featured at major venues including Crystal Bridges, The Getty, MoMA, and the Spoleto Festival. She is a recipient of awards from Creative Capital, the Harpo Foundation, the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, and the Mid-America Arts Alliance. An enrolled member of the Muscogee Nation, Harkins lives and works on the Muscogee Reservation and serves as a visiting lecturer, advancing dialogue around Indigenous music and art.
