Teen Workshop: Fabric Frenzy

with Ben Hunt

Wednesday, December 9, 2026 - 4:00 PM

Embroider small pillowcases with fabric and images to create a work of art that evokes family memories. Use color and pattern to create one-of-a-kind works of art that reflect your personality. Artist Ben Hunt uses textile artwork to connect to his heritage, so students are encouraged to bring items, images, and decorative elements that connect to their own cultural heritage. If time permits, students can make additional fabric keychains and/or ornaments during the workshop.

14+, all levels, beginngers welcome.
Free! Registration strongly encouraged; space is limited.
This event takes place at the Hailey Classroom from 4-6:30pm.

About the Instructor

Ben Hunt’s work searches for identity through an interdisciplinary process that uses memory and family relationships to create textile artwork. His artwork connects to his cultural identity and historical memory of his Ukrainian heritage, folk art and handicraft, specifically embroidery, and incorporates elements of symbolic meaning often meant as protection against evil. The vyshyvanka, a traditional embroidered shirt that symbolized carrying one’s family with them. Throughout his artwork, Hunt has referenced the vyshyvanka by using traditional embroidery on screen-printed portraits of his family. These soft sculptures evoke nostalgic memories of his experiences of visiting family in Ukraine and are a way to connect to lost traditions.
